Hesiod comes up with something remarkably (perhaps not for Hesiod, though) clever here.
General idea: schedule a netroots candidates forum for the same day as the Nevada Fox Debacle-To-Be.
Here is what I propose.Daily Kos and MYDD, and whichever bigtime big name progressive bloggers want to get involved, should schedule THEIR OWN CANDIDATE FORUM for the exact same date and time as the Nevada Democratic party soiree.
And, given the organizing talents of the blogosphere, you could even set it up for a venue in the same city as the Nevada Dem party forum.
Then, you invite all the candidates to show up.
Give them a choice between showing up at the Fox event, and majorly pissing off the blogosphere, or showing up at our event, and screwing over Fox.
I have a sneaking suspicion that even many high level Neveda Democrats would choose us over Fox.
Just my two cents.
As an added bonus:
My idea will also give the Nevada Democratic Party a way to get out of any contraactual obligation they may have with Fox News. If they schedule a forum, and none of the candidates intends to show up, then there's nothing Fox can do about it.
Is it too late to do something like this? It seems bulletproof.
Well gang, they're trying to do it again...as Darksyde notes on the Dkos' frontpage, Imus and his cronies are starting to crank up the "liberals at funerals" outrage machine.
So we've got to beat them to the punch.
Start bombarding any and every news outlet you can with questions like:
Why do Republicans think they can tell the King family how to run their funeral?
Why do Republicans think they can tell black people how to conduct Mrs. King's service?
When a life is about activism, shouldn't its memorial be about activism as well?
This is low hanging fruit. Let's grab it.
Start with Imus himself:
imus@msnbc.com
We all remember what they did to Wellstone. We cannot let them do that to Mrs. King's memory. It would represent the most egregious slap at one of the most important progressives ever.
Given the relative success of "Call Joe Lieberman day" in at least letting Joe know what's going to happen to him if he sells us out on Social Security, I propose that we try and do the same thing to the other Dem Senator most likely to sitck a shiv in our back on this issue: Delaware's Tom Carper.
For a senatorial neophyte, he has a lot of gall even thinking of bucking the party on this issue. So we gotta show him that the base is serious about this issue, and if he bends on it, we will make sure he doesn't know what it's like to be a second term senator.
Sometime this week or next, depending on feedback, I'm going to organize a "Call Tom Carper" day. In the mean time, why not give him a ring on your own:
And check my new blog for updates.
A senior Bush adviser sees "ice breaking" around opposition of some Democrats to the administration plan. Fellow Democrats, chafing at Lieberman's flirtation with Bush, circulate his criticism of "risky private accounts" in the run-up to his 2004 presidential run.
Despite White House courting, Democratic Sen. Nelson of Nebraska is unlikely to embrace Bush's private-account plan, an associate predicts. House Democratic campaign committee seeks donations to fuel "caught-on-tape" drive to weaken Republican members by publicizing alleged flip-flops on the issue.
Plan B? Republicans insist Bush could "win" without legislation by hitting "anti-reform" Democrats.
Starting today at noon, make sure you drop Shaky Joe a line, letting him know you oppose all bill's to phase out social security, whether the bill is Bush's or Lindsey Grahams. Also let him know you don't appreciate his weak rhetoric in the issue...all that does is help Republican.

He's out of Washington today, so a call to his Connecticut offices might be in order. Especially if you are a Connecticutie.
Post the message you left Joe here!
I briefly discussed this idea in a few replies to Chris Bowers' post last night and I promised to provide more detail today and a reminder for people who want to participate. So here we go.
As Chris noted, Lieberman is looking increasingly shaky on his opposition to defunding Social Security. There are shakier dems, to be sure (Ben Nelson comes to mind), but no shakier dems with as high a profile as Joe. With this in mind, I think we should concentrate our fire on Shaky Joe this week and I have suggested that everyone make Wednesday our "blogosphere day of action." Call Joe Lieberman's office, starting at 10:00 am and let his staffers know how you feel about the rhetorical support he's been giving the notion of defunding social security.
